General medicine

medical hospitalisation

The General Medicine department at IGEA Medical Clinic is a modern hospital ward of 10 beds that offers patients a full range of screening and laboratory diagnostic services .

Inside it has an operational gastroenterology and digestive endoscopy service: This medical specialty deals with the diagnosis and the treatment of digestive system conditions and is constantly being developed thanks to research and new technologies adopted by the staff, such as the endoscope: this is a flexible tube with a miniature fibroptic camera on one end, which allows the doctor to check the oesophagus, stomach, duodenum and intestine on a monitor screen. This equipment also allows doctors to perform biopsies and actual operations such as polypectomy, stenosis treatment and foreign body removal, treatment of digestive bleeding and removal of stones and biliary tract. It is also a vital means of prevention of digestive cancers. Endoscopy can be carried out on inpatients under sedation and anaesthesia.

In the General Medicine department we have a medical oncology service offering a full range of services, from the diagnostic phase and therapeutic steps for outpatients or inpatients, to the expert management of the patient in advanced stages of disease. The treated diseases are solid growths, which are treated with both conventional procedures and those acquired more recently, such as arterial locoregional therapies with implantable systems. The treatments used were designed in cooperation with the Italian Association of Medical Oncology, the European Society for Medical Oncology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. The setting of the activity is based on a relationship with the patient that is as peronalised and human as possible, thanks to the special training of the nursing staff, in line with the family and the patient's doctor. Patients enjoy a particularly high level of comfort: all rooms have two beds with bathrooms, air-conditioning and television.
