IGEA clinic's neurosurgery
unit in Milan treats diseases of the nervous system
and surgical treatment for cranial disease, supported by the ICU. The hospitalisation of all patients at the Neurosurgery unit takes place under 24-hour closed circuit television surveillance. The center has 10 beds and 4 post-operative intensive care beds.
Among the new technical equipment that has enabled the improvement of neurosurgical treatment provision is the surgical microscope; with magnification with stereoscopic vision and perfect lighting of the operating area, it has literally revolutionised operating procedures. Diagnostic skills, however, had been substantially improved before the advent of computed tomography and then by high-field MRI scanning that allows for non-invasive tests without risks, and the ability to make an early diagnosis for various diseases even without hospitalisation.
These diagnostic techniques are used at the IGEA Medical Clinic mainly for the surgical treatment of spinal disorders: myelopathy and radiculopathy from spondyloarthrosis, cervical and lumbar disc herniations, intramedullary, extramedullary and extradural spinal cord tumours, spinal vascular malformations, inflammatory diseases of the spine, degenerative spinal instability or that resulting from trauma, malformation, growths etc.
IGEA Medical Clinic has achieved and maintains UNI EN ISO 9001: 2008 CERTIFICATION, issued by Certiquality accreditation services to the Neurosurgery Unit and Intensive Care Unit. The UNI EN ISO 9001: 2008 certification, which provides accreditation for the methods and procedures used, is a sought-after award and is also advocated by the Lombardy region.
