Innovation Projects
Casa di Cura IGEA has launched the following innovation projects aimed at the technological validation of company products/prototypes, as a research center of the Lombardy Region
Predictive Analysis of Falls – APRICA
The Lombardy Region's Innodriver project, awarded to Casa di Cura IGEA through an "innovation voucher" from the company "Future Care," aims to enable the predictability of falls in the elderly through the company's Assisted Ambient Living system, called Looky. The system is already capable of detecting falls in the elderly and issuing an immediate alarm.

Remote stimUlation For FraiL people – RUFFLE
The Lombardy Region's Innodriver project, awarded to Casa di Cura IGEA through an "innovation voucher" from the company "Grammelot," aims to create a platform that allows rehabilitation therapists and neuropsychologists to independently develop cognitive stimulation exercises for healthy individuals at risk of cognitive decline. These exercises can be performed at home via tablet and are aimed at maintaining and enhancing specific cognitive functions (particularly memory, but also attention and executive functions).

Pre-commercial public procurement relating to: Rehabilitation Exoskeletons
Casa di Cura IGEA was selected by the Lombardy Region as the provider of a healthcare requirement for an "exoskeletal mechatronic system" capable of managing motor rehabilitation therapy for neurological patients with upper limb motor disabilities. Specifically, the device will allow the rehabilitation team to plan and the patient to perform a wide range of personalized movements, based on the individual's performance. Furthermore, it should be able to adapt therapy by measuring functional recovery and analyzing electrophysiopathological signals obtained from electroencephalography (EEG) and electromyography (EMG). The system will also incorporate neuromodulation techniques. The pre-commercial public procurement process is being conducted in three phases:
- PHASE I - SOLUTION DEVELOPMENT: research and development activities are related to the design of the Innovative Solution and the development of its implementation plan.
- PHASE II - PROTOTYPE DEVELOPMENT AND VALIDATION: the research and development activities are aimed at creating a prototype of the Innovative Solution designed in Phase I.
- PHASE III-EXPERIMENTATION: research and development activities are aimed at testing the previously developed prototype in a real context, with the help of carefully selected patients.
Casa di Cura IGEA, as a regional clinical validation center, is involved in phase II and phase III.

REhAbilitation through Cognitive exercises – REACT
Submitted and co-financed under the Research and Innovation Call, 2016 Edition - Measure A - Lombardy Region. Casa di Cura IGEA was invited to collaborate on the project, led by SME Lombardia, an ICT company "eLevel Communication" as a Research Center registered with the Questio system. The project aimed to study the effectiveness of a programming platform for the creation of multimedia rehabilitation-re-educational content (Quiddis) to promote the acquisition of motor skills and the improvement of non-specific cognitive functions, while also improving patients' quality of life. A secondary objective was to evaluate the organizational impact of using this tool in a clinical setting and the possibility of its use in the home setting (telerehabilitation). Based on this pilot, a clinical trial entitled "REACT: Re-Educational ACtivities through Technology" was launched in August 2018, approved by the Milan Area B Territorial Ethics Committee.

AppMONitoring and TRaining Adherenc with Chronicpatients – AMONTRACK
Project submitted and co-funded under the Research and Innovation Call for Proposals, Edition 2017 - Measure A - Lombardy Region. Casa di Cura IGEA was invited to collaborate on the project, led by the Lombardy-based SME, an ICT company "Think4Future," as a Research Center registered with the Questio system. The project's primary goal is to test the LifeCharger (LC) app as a tool to foster patient engagement and support therapy management in Parkinson's disease, as well as to develop a specific method for monitoring symptoms reported directly by patients.
The clinical team at Casa di Cura IGEA supported the technicians in developing the content of this app, aimed at optimizing compliance for patients suffering from chronic diseases, creating a tool easy to use for both patients and healthcare professionals.

REHABILITY
Presented and co-financed under the Research and Innovation Call for Proposals, Ed. 2015 - Measure A - Lombardy Region, Casa di Cura IGEA was invited to collaborate on the project, led by the Lombardy-based SME "Imaginary," as a Research Center registered with the Questio system. Sharing the objectives and goals of developing and validating technologies in the "health and wellbeing" sector, the research project involved the team led by Dr. Corbo in designing and testing exergames for upper-limb motor rehabilitation in patients with stroke, subsequently launching a clinical trial in February 2017. Approved by the Milan Area B Territorial Committee, Title "Virtual Reality for the RE-ABlitation of the Upper Limb after Stroke (RVriabAS)."
