MotionLab

The “Motion Lab” (Movement Opportunities and Technology Innovations fOr Neurorehabilitation Laboratory) offers professional skills in the field of biomechanics for diagnosis and rehabilitation, analysis of movement and fall risk, and for the recovery of patient autonomy through the development of robotic technologies for motor and sensory rehabilitation, thanks to the synergy between bioengineers, doctors and rehabilitation professionals.

In the laboratory, kinematic and kinetic data are acquired, the analysis of which provides a quantitative instrumental framework of movement, with the dual purpose of assisting the clinic, functionally guiding the therapeutic rehabilitation plan starting from the instrumental data; and on the other hand, of promoting scientific research on questions relating to locomotion and spatial exploration.

All acquisitions pertaining to instrumental gait analysis are accompanied by a report inserted in the patient's medical record, whether adult or child.

Research activity

The main research areas concern the study of movement (walking and spatial exploration with the upper limb) of subjects with neurological pathologies, the evaluation and validation of wearable robotic systems for rehabilitation and studies on algorithms and new methodologies of clinical investigation.

Instrumentation

The laboratory equipment consists of: an optoelectronic system with six infrared cameras and two video cameras (VICON®) coupled and synchronized with two force platforms (AMTI®), embedded in the floor; a 32-channel bipolar electromyographic system (OTB®); a system for the analysis of metabolic consumption (Vyntus CPX®); a treadmill (Technogym®); a high-density electroencephalograph (64 ch, BrainProducts®).

The instrumentation is completed by technological devices and prototypes developed specifically for research purposes by institutions, universities and companies within the framework of scientific collaborations undertaken by Casa di Cura Igea.

Team

Laboratory Manager:
Bioengineer Agnese Seregni

Physiotherapist Mariangela Pisasale takes care of the clinical reporting, while a pool of physiotherapists and bioengineers assists in carrying out gait analysis tests and research activities.
