The General Surgery Unit of the Casa di Cura Igea is a center of excellence for the surgical treatment of various pathologies, where expertise and innovation merge with attention to the person to offer complete and high-quality care. Our team of doctors, nurses and administrative staff are dedicated with passion and expertise to the well-being of each patient, accompanying them in all phases of the surgical process: from the first visit to the planning of the operation, up to the post-surgical phase. We usually apply a multidisciplinary approach, which integrates the various specialist skills for a complete and personalized care. The range of procedures performed ranges from endocrine surgery to abdominal surgery, breast surgery, abdominal wall surgery and proctological surgery.

As regards endocrine surgery, our Surgery Unit is a center accredited by SIUEC – Società Italiana Unitaria di Endocrino Chirurgia. We deal with the surgical treatment of benign and malignant pathologies that affect the thyroid, parathyroids and adrenal glands. In particular for the thyroid and parathyroids, since 2016, a new technology has been used in all interventions (something still not frequent in Italy) that allows continuous intra-operative monitoring (in real time) of the recurrent nerves (nerves that allow the movement of the vocal cords). This technology reduces the possibility of permanent paralysis of the vocal cords to values close to zero.

Another area of specialization concerns abdominal surgery using the most advanced techniques for both benign and oncological pathologies. The interventions are personalized based on the patient's needs and use both minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery and the traditional approach. Minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery allows to minimize surgical trauma, offering faster recovery times, lower risks of complications and smaller scars, promoting the patient's well-being.

Within the General Surgery Unit, at Casa di Cura Igea there is a team specialized in senology, with particular attention, therefore, to the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. In this area, in addition to oncological surgery, there are specific skills in oncoplastic surgery, which allows, where indicated, to combine tumor treatment with aesthetic reconstruction techniques. This approach allows for optimal functional and aesthetic results, benefits from continuous evolutionary updates (in particular of materials) and is, therefore, able to support the patient both from a clinical and psychological perspective.

As regards abdominal wall pathologies (inguinal hernias, crural hernias, umbilical hernias, laparoceles, recurrent hernias, etc.), the team of surgeons at the Casa di Cura Igea is able to perform all the different types of interventions that can be applied today in these pathologies, to meet the specific needs of each patient. Both the more traditional techniques of mesh hernioplasty (Lichtenstein, Trabucco, Wants, Rives) and the more “advanced” mini-invasive/laparoscopic techniques (TEP, TAPP) are performed.
