Acute Hospitalizations – Via Marcona Office
General surgery
The General Surgery Department of the IGEA Nursing Home has 13 beds in bright single and double rooms equipped with air conditioning and all the comforts of a hotel.
The General Surgery Unit at the IGEA Nursing Home is a center of excellence for the surgical treatment of various conditions, where expertise and innovation combine with individual care to offer comprehensive, high-quality care. Our team of doctors, nurses, and administrative staff is passionately and expertly dedicated to the well-being of each patient, supporting them through every stage of the surgical journey: from the initial consultation to surgery planning, through to the post-surgical phase. We consistently employ a multidisciplinary approach, integrating various specialist skills for comprehensive and personalized care. The range of procedures performed includes endocrine surgery, abdominal surgery, breast surgery, abdominal wall surgery, and proctological surgery.
As regards endocrine surgery, our Surgery Unit is a center accredited by SIUEC – Società Italiana Unitaria di Endocrino Chirurgia. We deal with the surgical treatment of benign and malignant pathologies that affect the thyroid, parathyroids and adrenal glands. In particular for the thyroid and parathyroids, since 2016, a new technology has been used in all interventions (something still not frequent in Italy) that allows continuous intra-operative monitoring (in real time) of the recurrent nerves (nerves that allow the movement of the vocal cords). This technology reduces the possibility of permanent paralysis of the vocal cords to values close to zero.
Another area of specialization concerns abdominal surgery using the most advanced techniques for both benign and oncological pathologies. The interventions are personalized based on the patient's needs and use both minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery and the traditional approach. Minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery allows to minimize surgical trauma, offering faster recovery times, lower risks of complications and smaller scars, promoting the patient's well-being.
Within the General Surgery Unit at the IGEA Clinic, there is a team specialized in senology, with a particular focus on the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. In addition to oncological surgery, this team also offers specific expertise in oncoplastic surgery, which allows, where appropriate, the combination of tumor treatment with cosmetic reconstruction techniques. This approach achieves optimal functional and aesthetic results, benefits from ongoing developments (particularly in materials), and is therefore able to support the patient both clinically and psychologically.
For abdominal wall disorders (inguinal hernias, femoral hernias, umbilical hernias, incisional hernias, recurrent hernias, etc.), the surgical team at the IGEA Clinic is capable of performing all the different types of procedures currently available for these conditions, to meet the specific needs of each patient. Both traditional mesh hernia repair techniques (Lichtenstein, Trabucco, Wants, and Rives) and more advanced minimally invasive/laparoscopic techniques (TEP, TAPP) are performed.
