The Neurosurgery Unit of the Igea Nursing Home in Milan treats surgically relevant pathologies of the Nervous System, both cranial and spinal.

The medical team is coordinated by Dr. Orazio Arena, former Director of the Simple Neurosurgery Structure of the Niguarda Hospital in Milan and of the Neurosurgery Operating Unit of the Manzoni Hospital in Lecco. The Medical Directors who work in the structure are Dr. Giuseppe Bonaldi, Dr. Luigi Giannachi and Dr. Carlo Antonio Todaro.

The Operating Unit has 10 beds for Ordinary Hospitalization and 4 beds for Post-Operative Intensive Care. All beds are monitored with a 24-hour television circuit. The UO uses a dedicated operating room with high-level equipment (Zeiss Pentero 900 Microscope, CUSA Ultrasound Aspirator, Siemens Cios Alpha Brightness Amplifier) and can use the latest generation diagnostic devices (Somatom Definition Flash CT, Siemens Aera 1.5 T Magnetic Resonance with 64 channels, PET/CT Biograph mCT40).

Clinical activity has always been aimed at the surgical treatment of neoplastic (extradural, intradural, intramedullary tumors), degenerative (herniated discs, spondyloarthritic myelopathies, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis), malformative (lytic listhesis, syringomyelia, alterations of the atlanto-occipital hinge), inflammatory (spondylodiscitis, spinal lesions from rheumatoid arthritis) vertebral-medullary pathology.

The availability of a post-operative Intensive Care Unit also allows for the safe treatment of elective cranial pathology (neoplasms, cavernous angiomas, hydrocephalus, etc.).

Casa di Cura Igea has UNI EN ISO 9001/2015 Certification. This certification, recommended by the Lombardy Region for all healthcare facilities, attests to the correctness of the diagnostic and therapeutic procedures adopted by the Operating Unit.
