Acute Hospitalizations – Via Marcona Office
Ophthalmology
The Ophthalmology department of the IGEA Nursing Home was founded in the late 90s.
Patients visiting our facility have the opportunity to be examined by one of the fourteen ophthalmologists who, together with the three orthoptists and ophthalmology assistants, make up our team.
Once the basic screening process has been completed, the patient can be directed towards more complete and sophisticated instrumental diagnostics: corneal topography, pachymetry and biomicroscopy, computerized visual field examination, retinal and optic nerve imaging (OCT and AngioOCT).
If laser therapy is deemed indicated, the patient can undergo the essential treatments for his pathology (Argon Laser and YAG Laser).
Furthermore, it is possible to correct refractive defects (myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism) with the Excimer Laser procedure.
In recent years, our Ophthalmology Department has been among the facilities in Milan that performs the highest number of cataract surgeries (almost 4000 surgeries/year).
It is possible to undergo vitreoretinal procedures (macular pucker, retinal detachment), glaucoma (valve implants and traditional procedures), as well as intravitreal therapies for the treatment of maculopathy, which complete the range of services currently provided both in an outpatient setting and in day hospital settings.
