The Neurosurgery Unit is a leading center for the treatment of major surgical conditions. Specifically, the facility specializes in spinal surgery and the treatment of peripheral nervous system diseases, offering treatment options tailored to patient needs and advanced technologies.
The Operating Unit has 10 ordinary hospital beds with 24-hour television monitoring and a post-operative semi-intensive care service.
Surgical activity is carried out in a dedicated operating room equipped with high-level devices such as the Zeiss Pentero 900 microscope and the Siemens Cios Alpha 3D image intensifier.
Patients can also benefit from the diagnostic support of the most modern equipment available at the IGEA Nursing Home, including:
- Siemens Somatom Force CT
- Magnetic Resonance Siemens Magnetom Vida 3,0 T
- PET/CT Biograph mCT40
Pathologies treated
Clinical activity focuses on the surgical treatment of spinal cord disorders . Specifically, the following are treated:
- Neoplastic pathologies: extradural and intradural tumors
- Degenerative diseases: herniated discs, spondyloarthritic myelopathies, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis
- Malformative pathologies: lytic listhesis, syringomyelia, alterations of the atlanto-occipital hinge
- Inflammatory pathologies: spondylodiscitis, spinal lesions from rheumatoid arthritis
All major percutaneous procedures on the spinal axis are also performed.

The neurosurgery medical team is led by Dr. Orazio Arena , former Director of the Cranio-Spinal Neurotraumatology Unit at Niguarda Hospital in Milan and of the Complex Neurosurgery Unit at Manzoni Hospital in Lecco.
